Derby County Defeat Manchester United at Old Trafford with a score of 2-2 (7-8) (Carabao Cup 2018)



ZonaFootball - Manchester United must end their adventure in the Carabao Cup this season after being eliminated by Championship team Derby County through a penalty shootout with a score of 8-7 after both teams drew 2-2 in normal time in the third round match held at Old Trafford. Wednesday (9/26) early morning hrs.
United went ahead thanks to Juan Mata's quick goal at the start of the match. Harry Wilson's beautiful free kick goal put Derby leveling the score to 1-1.
Playing with 10 men after Sergio Romero was shown a red card, United turned 1-2 after Jack Marriott scored for Derby. Marouane Fellaini's goal in injury time forced the match to continue on penalties. Phil Jones's failure to score from the penalty spot meant United were eliminated.1 in 3First round
The game has been running for three minutes, United have managed to lead thanks to Juan Mata's goal. The Spanish midfielder continued assisting Jesse Lingard with a first time shot to the far post which failed to reach Scott Carson.
United almost added the advantage in the 10th minute if only a corner kick released by Ashley Young was not thwarted by Carson's goalpost.
Despite being behind and losing dominant, Derby County were able to provide stiff resistance against the hosts even though there were no dangerous opportunities they created. 1-0 score for United's advantage lasted until halftime.2 out of 3Second round
Returning from the dressing room, Derby tried to play more daringly to attack. Wilson had the chance to level the score in the 53rd minute, but his efforts could still be countered by Romero.
Derby finally succeeded in balancing the situation to 1-1 through Wilson's 59th minute goal. The loan midfielder from Liverpool released a beautiful free kick which made Romero just stunned to see the ball go into the net.
Disaster for United came in the 67th minute when Romero was forced to be sent out after receiving a straight red card from the referee for trying to block the ball outside the penalty box. Jose Mourinho was forced to withdraw Mata to be replaced by Lee Grant.
Derby County kept the Old Trafford public silent in the 85th minute when substitute Jack Marriott managed to break into Grant's goal with a header using a rebound from Mason Mount. Derby now turned 1-2.
When the match seemed to end with a win for Derby, Fellaini appeared to be United's savior through his goal in the final minutes of the match. Crossing Diogo Dalot was successfully headed by Fellaini to break into Carson's goal. 2-2 score makes the winner of this fight must be determined on penalties.
In this round of penalty shootouts, the five kickers from each successful team carried out their duties well so they had to continue with a duel of dead life.
